During surface treatment, different metal parts are thoroughly cleaned to remove grease before applying a layer of another metal, usually in an aqueous solution. Some baths can be strongly acidic or strongly alkaline. Such baths need to be neutralized before they can be treated in an AxoPur plant. Typically, they are reused for a long time and it is the rinse water from pre-treatment as well as post-treatment that undergoes regular treatment. Such baths typically contain transition metal ions and oil.
