In a smelting plant, slag and other raw metal materials are purified into refined products for further use. Often, the liquid metals are poured into ingots for further use. In a foundry, pure metal pieces are cast into desired forms. Contaminated water from a smelter and foundries often contains transition metal ions, as well as suspended substances and frequently also oil from casting molds. PAH may also be present in the wastewater, especially from aluminum smelters that work with graphite electrodes.
Typical reductions of different categories of substances are presented below:
• Suspended solids: 90+%
• Transition metal ions: 90+ %
• Oil index: 90+ %.
• PAH: 90+ %
